In the recent international Best Global Universities Report, compiled by the specialized magazine U.S. News & World Report and valid for 2020, which took into account the 1500 best universities in the world, a brilliant result is recorded by the sectors of Astrophysics and Physics of the University of Trieste.
The University of Trieste, in fact, ranks for Astrophysics in the 69th world position and 14th in Italy, which are prestigious results, Physics similarly registers a good 171st position in the world. The Physics of the University of Trieste is fifth in Italy.
In the ranking of Italian universities, the University of Trieste ranks 15th out of 60 institutes; in the European ranking it is among the best 125 out of 560 and ranks 282nd worldwide, out of the 1,500 "top universities" evaluated in more than 80 countries.
The U.S. ranking is based on various survey parameters; in the first phase it uses the Clarivate Analytics survey methodology, developed to size the multidimensional profiles of the bibliometric data of the world's scientific research institutions.
Subsequently, as a second step of evaluation, 13 parameters were considered, such as: the global reputation of scientific research of the university under investigation; the same scientific reputation but in its regional context which, in our case, means European; the publications; the overall citations; the normalized scientific citations; the number of publications that fall within the 10% of the most cited in the world; the international collaborations; the most cited citations within 10% in the respective field of study; the published volumes; the conferences held by scholars, etc..
