Picosats, a company founded in 2014 as a spin-off of the University of Trieste, was awarded the prestigious European Technology Award 2021 in the “Space Technology Solutions” sector.
On the evening of 2nd December and in the setting of the Ritz Hotel in Paris, Anna Gregorio, Professor of Space Astrophysics at UniTs and CEO of Picosats, received the award held by the Professional and Business Excellence Institute, promoters of the European Awards, with the aim of propagating the success and reputation of entrepreneurs and scientists, but also artists and athletes internationally.
Picosats, derived from a previous didactic and research activity aimed at the construction of the first small satellite in Trieste, is developing a new generation of telecommunications systems to be applied to small satellites.
The company aims at making the Space and communications more accessible, cost-effective, and sustainable, making it easier to obtain information even on a low budget and in a sustainable way.
The European Space Agency, currently the main customer of the company based in AREA Science Park, financed the Radiosat project for the creation of a miniaturized Ka-band radio. The product, owned by Picosats and now in its industrialization phase, will be presented on the market shortly.
