The Call for proposals for the scientific programme of ESOF2020 Trieste is underway, the new site is online

The proposals for defining the events of the July 2020 event must fall within one of nine themes. The new platform for sending them is ready. New deadline: 7 July 2019

The EuroScience Open Forum 2020 Trieste really comes alive. From today until June 15, 2019 it will be possible to send proposals for the composition of the scientific program of the event, which will take place from July 5 to 9, 2020 in the Porto Vecchio area of the Julian capital. Protagonists and protagonists of the world of science and techno-logy, innovation, entrepreneurship, politics, communication and all those who want to bring ideas, strategies and innovative formats on the relationship between science and society can present their ideas through the site www.esof.eu.

From it you can access the platform where you can find the form prepared to send the necessary documentation. The projects must fall within one of the topics identified for the 2020 edition and will be selected by international experts.

THE THEMES: FROM THE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY OF THE FUTURE TO SUSTAINABILITY
Nine scientific areas have been chosen by the ESOF2020 organisation for the definition of the programme. Starting with "Blue Planet", water as a heritage of fundamental importance for humanity, to be known and protected. To continue with "I compute the-refore I am", i.e. the challenges posed by artificial intelligence, big data, ever faster, more powerful, ubiquitous, intelligent and interactive computers. A third theme goes under the deno-mination "Science and society", in which we ask you to explore the interactions between the world of research with other fields of knowledge, from ethics to philosophy to law, and its influences, repercussions, criticalities in everyday life. "Breaking frontiers in science and know-ledge" will instead stimulate discussion of the most avant-garde territories towards which research is being pushed. "Sustainable future" concerns possible technologies and strategies for balanced development and environmental protection. "Nourishing the planet" encompasses different themes: from food waste to synthetic foods. "Live long and prosper" refers to an increasingly targeted, technological, refined and personalised medicine. "Science for policy/policy for science" addresses the issues of scientific diplomacy, research policies, infrastructures, networking and gender issues in the technical-scientific field. Finally, "The Smart City" is focused on the sustainable city of the future.

MEDIA PARTNERSHIP WITH RAI
The opening of the call for proposals also coincides with the official announcement of an important partnership between ESOF2020 and RAI, which has sponsored the Forum and will be the event's media partner through Rai Friuli Venezia Giulia and other television and radio structures. The Public Service, in particular, will tell the story of ESOF2020 already during the months of approach - and then during the Forum - with services in TV and Gr, and with in-depth reviews by the structure of programming in Italian and Slovenian, Rai Radio3 and Rai Culture.

FREEDOM FOR SCIENCE, SCIENCE FOR FREEDOM: THE ESOF2020 MOTTO
ESOF2020 will take advantage of the great experience accumulated by the Julian capital already during the Cold War as a world reference point for scientific diplomacy. The event will also reaffirm the indispensable prerequisite for the development of science and innovation: the free movement of knowledge. A principle at the base of the scientific revolution of the 17th century which represents one of the founding and distinctive traits of modern Europe and one of the fundamental contributions of the Old Continent to the history of civilization. With a privileged look towards the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and offering an up-to-date picture of the most significant changes in scientific research, ESOF2020 will be a platform for dialogue between different skills and knowledge, the only approach to confidently address global challenges. The expected impact is to raise awareness of the importance of governing development so as to take into account both its possible effects on the environment, health and safety, and the ethical-social implications of innovation. The final objective is to make the sharing and circulation of scientific knowledge according to the ideals promoted by the Open Science movement more effective, also through the contribution of individual citizens.

The five-day forum will be enriched, from 27th June to 11th July 2020, by the Science in the city festival, a program of events open to all.
