The University’s Quality Assurance System

The Quality Assurance System (QAS) is the set of processes and responsibilities adopted by the University to guarantee that the aims set out in the Quality Policy are realised and that all actors in the system are aware of their roles and perform their tasks promptly and competently. Moreover, the service provided should be effective and the actions undertaken correctly documented, allowing the outcomes to be assessed by analysing appropriate performance indicators and stakeholder satisfaction.

Self-assessment and Improvement
Performance Monitoring Indicators

Primarily, the Quality Assurance System makes reference to indicators identified by ANVUR (National Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes).
The Quality Supervision Board plays a key role in the realisation of the Quality Assurance (QA) System. The Research Assessment Committee (CVR) is a technical board of 15 members, one for each subject area taught in the University.
For teaching, the Quality Supervision Board provides course coordinators with a series of indicators regarding students’ academic careers, in order to monitor course progress. For research, instead the Research Assessment Committee (CVR) defines and periodically updates the standards, parameters and criteria to analyse and assess the University’s research.

Stakeholder satisfaction

The University of Trieste has also initiated a self-assessment programme using specific questionnaires to analyse its ability to respond to the needs of different stakeholders, above all the students. The aim is:

  • to complete the monitoring of the quality of teaching and services and to highlight strengths and weaknesses;
  • to identify appropriate measures to improve weaknesses.
